- Category: Gay Rights
- Level: Local
- Concerns: An “enacted” policy that has been passed to help with a problem/issue that individuals/families face
- Importance on families/individuals: This issue affects many individuals in our community. Now all residents of San Antonio have rights no matter what their sexual orientation or gender identity.
- My input: I am in favor of this ordinance and I am more than happy to see San Antonio making steps towards equality, following many other cities in this country. Although I am glad to see changes being made in our area, I do get disappointed reading about how many people showed up to fight against this ordinance and how many Conservative politicians in our state are against this ordinance. I feel as if in today’s society equality and gay rights are becoming more and more common and I feel that people in the community should be getting used to it and stop being so hateful and against all the up and coming things that are changing involving rights for gays and trans-genders. I do not believe that in today’s society people should be treated any differently just because of their sexual orientation or gender identity and it still disappoints me to see people opposing this ordinance and even going as far as protesting outside the City Hall. There is absolutely no reason anyone should ever be evicted from their home just because of their sexual preference. It is sad that we live in a country that promotes “freedom” however the woman in the article states that when she says the pledge of allegiance she says “Justice for some” in place of “Justice for all”. I am more than happy that she now feels like she can finally say “Justice for all” as our community takes a step towards equality.
This is a blog for Texas State students taking FCS 4347 (Family Policy) to be able to post their weekly reading assignment (3 newspaper articles about issues or policies that effect individuals and families) and to write their reactions, opinions and implications of the articles
