4. This article is concerning a bill that is being
considered in order to cut the food stamps budget.
5. This is
important for individuals and families because it will leave many families
without food and more financial problems.
6. It is
extremely sad to think that this type of benefit program such as food stamps is
considered a waste for some people. I personally think that this new bill will
affect dramatically the people who live under the poverty line who are receiving
benefits right now. These families already have their financial plan on how to
spend their money and to live for just one dollar a meal per day. Actually the
poor families who have benefits for food stamps lives a high unhealthy crisis
because the food that they can bought with food stamps is just filled with
empty calories and with not nutritional value at all. Children’s will be a
large group affected if the budget of food stamps is reduced. They are in a
stage where they need healthy food to grow up and be healthy in their future; unfortunately
there are many kids who eat just from these food stamps. It is unfair to take
away this benefit from our country because we clearly need an increase for all
these people who need it. Even though I’m
not agree with this bill I do think some regulations on what type of food can
be purchased must be considered. There are many unhealthy food options such as
sugary beverages, chips, desserts and much more that will only increase another
of our big problems which is obesity. Budget of Food Stamps benefit program
should be increased!
I completely agree with you on this article. It is such a shame that even though there are budget cuts happening all across the United States, this budget cut if it is implemented will cause a spiral effect on the economy and the poverty epidemic happening in the United States. There should be other bills that need to be written up like a bill to increase minimum wage. A person who works 40 hours a week at minimum wage can barely get by. I read an article that was posted last week about how the minimum wage for tip earners hasn’t changed since 1991! (http://www.nytimes.com/2013/09/15/opinion/sunday/tips-and-poverty.html). Instead of focusing on bills that force people to get nonexistent jobs, they should provide more income for those who have jobs but are still in poverty. There are a lot of people in poverty that support their families working for tips only at diners, restaurants and bars and since raising the minimum wage, in the first time the tipping minimum wage hasn’t raised to be 50% less than normal minimum wage.
ReplyDeleteFood Stamps are a need for people in poverty; it is so unfortunate that a majority of House members are seeing the Food Stamp program as a nuisance rather than its benefits. As said in the article by John A. Boehner, “This bill makes getting Americans back to work a priority again for our nation’s welfare programs.” I truly feel like that is a naive statement to make. I’m not sure if he really knows how much people struggle already while on Food Stamps, people are willing to get jobs to be able to eat properly but they just don’t have the resources, education, or there is a lack of job available to get a well paying job to be able to not have to live on food stamps. The only things this bill will do for the United States will bring further hunger to everyone in poverty, further the unhealthy eating habits, and grow the poverty population.
The bill will also force people who are on Food Stamps to be tested for drug use, now I am definitely against people using drugs and using drugs will cause another set of issues, but mandating drug testing for everyone on Food Stamps will cost so much money it is ridiculous. They will end up spending the amount of money that was cut from the budget on testing people from drugs, and if they are in possession wont they have to do jail time or be arrested that will cost additional money. The economy is improving so this bill might be a good idea in the future with some editing of course because hopefully with the improving economy there will be less people who need those food stamps but as of right now his bill may look like a good idea written on paper to apparently most of the House members but in reality it will have an immense downward spiral on the whole United States.
