  2. Category: Safety in public schools
  3. Level: State
  4. Concerns: An “enacted” policy that has been passed to help with a problem/issue that individuals/families face
  5. Importance on families/individuals: The issue of safety in public schools is very important to families and individuals. When parents send their children to school, the want to make sure that they are safe and will not be harmed.
  6. My input: To me, the idea of having armed school marshals at public schools is a good one. They would go through extensive training and would only be known to the principal and law enforcement. Because of all of the horrifying incidents that have happened in the past year involving violent crimes I think that parents would feel safer knowing that there is some protection at the schools their children are attending. Although I do understand that there is nothing anybody can do to stop all terrible things from happening in schools I do believe that if having school marshals stops one horrible thing from happening then that it has done its job. I attended a school in the Dallas area that did have an officer present all the time so I think it’s a great idea that the new laws that are coming into effect are first targeting public schools in Texas that don’t have an officer on site at all times.
