Ex-Dallas sports star gets life term for slaying
Category of Problem: Murder/Safety
Level of problem: Local
This is a problem/issue that individuals/families place as
well as an enacted policy of sentencing guilty murders to terms in prison.
Why is this important or how does this affect
individuals/families? Murders and convictions happen daily and with no
explanation. This affects both individuals and families because American’s now
live in a society that is generally not safe.
My views on the issue/policy: Although we hear about murders
and all the hatred that this world puts out on a daily basis, every situation
is still devastating. Here this former high school sports All-star who grew up
with the famous Chris Bosh, is now sentenced to life in person without parole
due to a robbery and slaying of a 50 year old woman. What possessed this man to
do this? He robbed and killed an innocent woman who he most likely randomly
chose while walking around. She was alone and was near her home when this
incident occurred. This makes me not feel safe even when I’m at home walking
with my daughter around the block of my friendly subdivision. Anything can
happen at any time and it’s one of the scariest things to think. I feel this
punishment should have included death row. Life in prison without parole is
still a sufficient punishment but probably not to the poor woman’s family and
friends. These types of incidents not only affect the involved people but
family and friends as well. I’m not sure why people do what they do; sense of
entitlement, a power trip, or maybe a psychotic diagnosis. Nothing is worth
killing innocent people.
