Food Stamp Bill

Category: Hunger/food stamps

Level: National

Concerning: A potential policy that is being considered to help a problem/issue that individuals/families face.

Why is this important/how does this affect families/individuals? Being able to feed your family is a important issue to many families. Many rely on food stamps to survive day to day

My Views:
Many hardworking people struggle to afford groceries to feed their families. With the potential cuts and restrictions that are looking to be put on food stamps, millions will no longer be eligible and will be forced further into poverty. I think that the proposed $40 million cut with the food stamp bill should be voted against and alternative action should be taken. I agree with several statements in this news article that addressed the point that this bill is a "relentless assault on the poor and hungry". Although I do agree with requirements and restrictions in order for people to be eligible for food stamps, I do think that the cuts would leave many helpless people without dinner on their tables. The ability to receive food stamps has help many people from falling into poverty and help many people in poverty able to at least feed their families. If this bill is passed, I think we will just see an increase in the number of homeless people in our country as well as the number of people living in poverty annually.
