$300 Million in Aid to Detroit

Category: Economy

Level: State

A problem/issue that individuals/families face

This is important to families who live in Detroit because this will let build the city back to the potential and is the first step to regaining a good economy once again.

Views:  I think that what President Obama is doing is great for the city of Detroit. Being the first big city to file for bankruptcy is almost a foreshadowing for what is to come for many cities alike. With this government grant it will hopefully being to bring life back to a city where the birth place to the automobile industry was once. I do however believe that it is partially the officials of the city for not acting upon this earlier in time. They knew that Congress wouldn’t give them a bailout so they took no steps to try other methods for asking for assistance. I don’t believe that they should receive a bailout because there are bigger problems in America that need funding from the government as a whole that coincides with the economy in Detroit, such as, the Food Stamp reforms that the House is pushing for. We have a giant struggling city that needs federal assistance badly, so maybe instead of a bailout Congress could help those citizens of Detroit and most of America by not cutting the food stamp funding. As for now, what President Obama is doing by rising funding and helping the city, using executive power, so they can in turn help the citizens is a great thing. It is only the first step into a long process but I believe with the assistance of the nation it will hopefully bring life back into a city that is now full of violence and poverty and turn it into a thriving city once again.
