Lawsuit filed to block Texas abortion law

1. http://www.mystatesman.com/news/news/lawsuit-filed-to-block-texas-abortion-law/nZ8rt/

2. Category of Problem/Issue: Abortion Law

3. Level of Problem: State

4. The article concerns:
-An abortion law that could affect the lives of women who receive reproductive health care services from these clinics.

5. Why is this important to individuals/families OR How does it affect individuals/families?
-The House Bill 2 would enforce two restrictions: one being a tighter regulation on abortion-inducing drugs and a requirement that makes doctors who perform the abortions gain admitting privileges in hospitals. The lawsuit is being filed by women's health organizations and abortion-rights groups including Planned Parenthood.

6. What are your views on the issue/problem?
-The enforcement of either one of these restrictions is detrimental to these clinics all over Texas. These restrictions will make it even more difficult for women to receive health care benefits and services at these establishments that not only provide abortion services, but also contraceptives, preventative and even life-saving care. I consider myself pro choice, because I think abortion is a personal decision, not a decision the government should have to interfere with. Texas has an especially high teen pregnancy rate and I think that offering these contraceptives and reproductive health services in clinics will make a positive impact in the long run.
The article also explains that these restrictions will limit access to poor and rural women, who already have limited resources. These clinics give women power and choice over their own lives and I don't think that's something that should be taken away.
