2.      Category* of Problem/Issue identified in article: Health/Environment
3.      Level of problem/issue: Local
4.      This article is concerning a new ordinance that council members approved in order to help with the smoking in public issue in the community.

5. This is important for individuals and families because the banning of smoking in public in an enormous step in improving individuals health because second hand smoking is a leading cause of death among the country.

6.   I thing this new ordinance on prohibiting smoking in public areas will give back the fresh air to all the individuals in this city. I really believe public smoking its terrible for many reasons like cancer, asthma, and even death. Since second hand smoke is the third leading cause of preventable death it’s extremely important to keep people’s right to fresh air. I also believe that the individuals to choose to smoke and reduce their lifespan is them our decision but that don’t means they should harm the others people health by smoking in public places. Banning of smoking in public places reflect a government that cares from their people health and well-being. I also think that this new ordinance will have a positive impact because non-smokers will be discouraged from taking this bad habit and those who smoke to also think more about their decision of quit smoking.

  1. I definitely agree with your stance on the no-smoking policy. I have many friends who only occasionally smoke and have tried and failed many times to quit. One of the main reasons they said quitting was so difficult is when we all go out to the square, the bars are enveloped in a cloud of cigarette smoke and that makes them want to light up. I believe that this ordinance will definitely help the nightlife environment by making the bars a bit more inviting for nonsmokers. There are a lot of bars that some of my nonsmoking friends will not even go into because of the smoke, so this ordinance will help increase public revenue.
