5. Why is this important to individuals/families OR How does it affect individuals/families?
-The construction will temporarily cause traffic, and commuter delays. This affects all the individuals including commuters, students, and even families in the area.
6. What are your views on the issue/problem?
-Everyone who lives or commutes to San Marcos has been stopped by the train for what sometimes seems like forever. There are a few places around town where you can be held up, but the most common and probably the most annoying one has got to be the one on Aquarena, right next to the stadium. The city of San Marcos have come up with a solution, but it comes with a price. Not only is it going to cost $2 or $3 million dollars, but it's going to cost all of us a lot of traffic, precious time, and give us a headache or two. The amount of students living pass the railroad track on Aquarena (off Mill and Post Rd) is enormous. Copper Beach, Aspen Heights, Wildwood, and several other upcoming apartment complexes are filled with students, including myself, who are not going to like living on that side of town for a long time. The good news is, if you're a senior, the construction won't begin until winter 2014. So luckily, I'll be able to slide by this one.
I am all for the overpass on Aquarena. More than likely I won't even be living in San Marcos anymore since I will be graduating in December, but regardless of cost and regardless of how much of a headache it may cost during the construction phase, it is absolutely necessary. Texas State has been growing incredibly fast and with that, the entire city of San Marcos has been growing too. As it is, San Marcos isn't set up to handle all of the people during the regular school semester, and construction projects like this are just one of many that will be necessary to support the growing population. Aquarena Springs is basically backed up with traffic at all times of day already. Another issue there is a lack of crosswalks for students. I can't even tell you how many times I've seen a group of students playing Frogger, basically dodging traffic to get across the highway after the bus drops them off. Sure all of the construction going on in this city is a hassle to work around and incredibly inconvenient, but in reality, there is just no other way around it.
