This
article is concerning an enacted policy that is helping an issue/problem that
individuals/families face.
Why
it is important:
The
policies being upheld by Lackland are important because trainees should not
have to worry about inappropriate advances and sexual assault when they are in
training to serve our country. The new rules will help to keep trainees safe
and allow them to report inappropriate behavior committed by superiors without
feeling like they will experience repercussions.
My
views:
The
amount of cases that have surfaced out of Lackland is disheartening. I have
known a few people who have or are going to complete training at Lackland and I
cannot help but question if they saw or experienced any of the things
instructors are being charged with. I feel like the new policies that are being
put in place are going to be extremely helpful in resolving the issues going on
at the base. With male instructors in a place of high authority over female
trainees I can understand the hesitation in reporting an inappropriate
incidence. These new rules and anonymous ways of reporting will highly improve
the probability of a trainee feeling comfortable with reporting an issue they
feel is a problem.
I
like that there is a solid effort in diminishing these problems and I believe
that the families of these trainees and the trainees themselves will feel a
restored sense of safety when beginning training at Lackland.
