2. Category of Problem: Immigration

3. Level of Problem: State and National

4. Article Concerns: Allowing illegal immigrants entering the U.S. to get drivers license.

5. Why is it important/who does it affect?: This affects all illegal immigrants currently living in and wanting to enter the U.S.; can be a positive thing for them but negative for the states. It is important because immigration has always been a big issue for the U.S. There are guidelines and laws set in place in regards to immigration. This can cause even more blurred lines.

6. Personal View: Personally I am not sure exactly where I stand on this policy. I see many great points from both sides of the issue. I do feel strongly in that  it is important for immigrants to cross over legally and take all necessary approaches  needed to become a legal citizen of the United States. It is a lengthy process, but can and should be done; my grandma and uncle did it.  Again, coming from a border town (El Paso) I have first hand seen the issue of immigration at large. As mentioned in the article, granting immigrants drivers license could possibly help make the roads safer and have less hit and runs due to them being undocumented and afraid of being exposed and not having insurance. Family members and friends of mine have been involved in such fender benders and accidents where the person with the Mexican plates flees the scene or nothing can be done because of lack of identification and holding them accountable. I do agree to some extent that by doing so this does encourage people to come over illegally and continue to live that way rather then abiding by the laws and taking the necessary measures to be here legally. We shouldn't have laws set in place just to deter them from coming to the states, rather we should be encouraging them to come and do so legally. Who knows, we may see that this law if passed can have a positive impact on our immigration issues.
