Guns (Mostly) Not Permitted in Starbucks

Austin American-Statesman
Category: Gun Policies
Level: National

This article is concerning an enacted policy that will help a problem/issue individuals/families face.

Important because:
Enacting this policy within Starbucks locations nationwide may allow Starbucks patrons to feel safer during their trips for delicious coffee.

My views:
I feel that this article is unclear in its stance on gun control. On one hand, Schultz says to leave your guns at home when coming to Starbucks. On the other hand, notices will not be posted to inform the public of the new policy and people who walk in with their guns will not be confronted. I'm just wondering, what is the point of putting the policy in place if you're not going to enforce it? The article later states that Schultz will consider enforcing it at a later date, by why wait for that date?
In an effort to remain on neither side of the gun control debate, Schultz has placed himself confusingly in the middle. I think this policy could be an attempt to appeal to both those who are anti-gun as well as those who are pro-gun. By not making a weapons policy, once could assume that Starbucks is pro-gun. By making a policy that strictly prohibits weapons in their stores it is clear that they are anti-gun. This not-so-strict policy seems, to me, to be an effort to simply please the masses while remaining neutral which I don't believe one can do that easily.
