First details released of Obamacare plans in Texas
Category of problem: Health
Level of problem: State, but National Plan
This is a policy that will be enacted by Tuesday, October 1,
2013.
Why this important/how does it affect families/individuals?
This impacts everybody who does not have a current health insurance plan or families
that cannot afford healthcare.
My views on the issue/policy: There is a lot of controversy
on this topic and as Tuesday nears, more people are becoming vocal and making
their voice heard. My thoughts on this article go both ways; on one hand, I
think it is great that Texans who cannot afford healthcare or who cannot find a
job will have access to insurance at an affordable price. The average rate for
a 27 year old with no income starts at $132 per month. For me, that is the
price of my electric bill in the summer but for those who are college students,
that is still a lot of money. Texas currently sits at number one with the most
uninsured citizens. However, as more people are able to afford the gold,
silver, and bronze policies, health insurance for others will go up. I don’t
think that is fair. It says that they need young, healthy adults to offset the
costs of the older and chronically ill. Also, the article states that the lower
the policy, the more out of pocket costs. I thought the point was that it would
be less out of pocket cost for citizens. That is why people can’t afford
insurance in the first place, both the premium and out of pocket expenses. Insurance
as a whole is expensive so offering low cost for some but increasing the cost
for others makes no sense.
I agree with Amanda because it is for the people to pay more out of pocket.I think that it is good for everyone to have insurance but the amount that the affordable care act is expensive because if a person doesn’t have tax credit then they are paying like $138 a month. That is if you are 27 years old and healthy. I think it crazy because if I am in college for you to pay that much as month. It is hard enough without me having to worry about paying for my health insurance. I know health insurance is really needed because if you get sick and you go to the hospital you are more likely to get treated. I think it is great if you are a family of four who have a tax credit because your average is $52 month. So what will be the price for a family of four who doesn’t have a tax credit? Only one parent is working then what will happen to the family. The bronze is supposed to be the lowest cost for the Affordable care act will be will be $211 a month before tax credit in the state. While nationally the bronze will cost the person about $249. I feel the reason why people don’t have health insurance is because they can’t afford it and if the suppose affordable care act is supposed to be affordable but it seem like it is going to be expensive instead. I know the young health people insurance is supposed to have the elder and chronic ill but if you are young and you don’t get the insurance your first fine will be $95. I know they haven’t given all the information that you need to know because it is not in the marketplace yet. I know Govern Perry decline to oversee which I think it is crazy because I think he need to oversee for his people. Why will he want to do what is best for the people who elected him. I think he need to look into because it will be insured a lot of people and still Texas is one of the highest state to have uninsured people. I know they said six out of ten will be paying less than $100 which is nice but I don’t think it is fair to those who have people who have to pay more. I guess that is how life works. One has to give more because they have more.
