SISD makes efforts to reach out to students

1.http://www.elpasotimes.com/news/ci_24075022/sisd-makes-effort-reach-out-students\

2. Category of Problem: Education

3. Level of Problem: Local

4. Article Concerns: Students who were enrolled in the SISD during Summer 2007-Summer 2012 who were victims of a district policy that bypassed federal accountability measures.

5. Why is it important/who does it affect?: It has affected high school students in the Socorro Independent School District from graduating or being retained from a grade. The school district is working to make amends with those students who were affected in such a way and were unable to graduate. They are reaching out to them so that they can correct the problem and give them another chance to graduate high school.

6. Personal View: I think it was a great move on the SISD's part to reach out to those students who may have been subjected to the policy and were unable to graduate or were inappropriately retained from the next grade level. Teachers and administrators can often drop the ball and in the end the one who suffers from it most is the student. It is important that these mistakes not be made again and all students are given the best guidance and education.
