DeLay conviction overturned

DeLay conviction overturned

Category of problem: Politics

Level of problem: State

The article is concerning an enacted policy of overturning charges on a money-laundering scandal.

Why this is important or how does the affect individuals/families? This affects individuals because they are what make up corporations who fund and support political campaigns in which DeLay used that money to fund local state representatives that he supported.

My views on the issue/policy: It’s all politics! There are so many scandals and money-laundering going on in the world of politics that the citizens can’t even keep up. I don’t feel that DeLay being acquitted was the best result especially with the Justice stating that they just ‘didn’t have sufficient legal evidence to charge him.’ It’s probably because he paid somebody off to rid any evidence he had. He may have done well through the years and made a name for himself but he needs to get off his high horse and come clean for his state. He reportedly sought donations from his political action committee at Enron but he denied it yet he still stepped down as majority leader. Well didn’t Enron just get out of a major scandal in 2001 as one of the largest failed audits and bankrupt businesses in the world! Of course DeLay would deny that. His two staff members were also found guilty and were ordered to pay a fine and probation for illegal political contributions. It’s really sad that this is what our government’s politics has come to at the state level as well as national.

"He (DeLay) was wrong on the law and wrong on the facts, but politics bailed him out."
