1. O'ryan Johnson (Pittsfield) Boston Herald. 17 year old rapes younger boy with broomstick judge rules him "not dangerous."
2. Category of problem: Child rape
3. Level of problem: it was a local hearing but is making national news because of the overall ruling
4. The article concerns: Judge ruling a rapist as not dangerous
5. How does this apply to families or individuals?
This ruling applies in particularly to families with children first entering junior high and high-school. If the older kids in schools such as the suspect in this case can get away with something as serious as rape with only minimal penalties, then parents and families should most definitely be concerned for their children's well being.
6. My opinion on the subject:
After reading the miniscule penalties subjected to the suspect I was most definitely a little outraged. I believe he should have been charged as an adult for the raping of a child and gotten some prison time to reflect on how awful his act was. Instead the judge ruled him as not dangerous and instead was only penalized with basically not being able to attend the same school he was originally at. A few years back here in San Marcos a similar thing happened at the high-school only it was a group of kids performing the crime rather than just one. The judge here had a similar ruling. I think this "boys being boys" mentality from judges needs to be scrapped across the nation and much harsher penalties should be in order for crimes like such.
