Unemployment Rate Drops, Time To Celebrate?

1. http://www.statesman.com/news/business/data-show-fewer-working-age-americans-are-trying-t/nZqnr/
2. Category of problem/issue: Unemployment
3. Level of problem: National level
4. The article concerns: The nations unemployment rate has fallen. The fall has occurred because people have stopped looking for jobs. The fallen participation rates for both men and women have contributed.
5. Why is this important to families/individuals OR how does it affect individuals/families?
--You would think that the unemployment rate declining would be helpful towards families and individuals. The cause for the decline says other wise. What you see happening is more people leaving the labor force, but even more people are not being able to find jobs.
6. What are your views on the issue/problem?
--I think the issue concerning the nation's unemployment rate is a severe problem. It greatly affects families and individuals on a day to day bases. People are not able to support themselves or their families because of this issue. This issue could also become even greater later on. It could create even more poverty in this nation. The US already does not account for everyone who should be considered impoverished. So as a nation how are we supposed to help the men and women who have just given up on looking for work? I do not think that more unemployment benefits should be taken into account or more welfare problems creating. I feel that there is a difference between people who are actively looking for work and people who just give up.
The participation rates have contributed to the issue. "Men and women More than 300,000 people stopped working or looking for a job. Their exodus shrank the so-called labor force participation rate — the percentage of adult Americans with a job or seeking one — to 63.2 percent. It’s the lowest participation rate since August 1978." Yes, this nation did go through a recession, but since 2009 our economy has only been growing stronger. The drop in participate should not be declining. There should be more jobs then there are people. I guess this is just not the case.
I have a job and have had the same job for almost five years. I am not out there looking for a new job--yet. As a soon to be college graduate, this information scares me. I am going to be out there looking for a job. There has to be answers and solutions.
