Jordan Brewer Article 2 Week 2
San Antonio Express News Mark Scolforo
Category: Gay Marriage
Level: State
This article is concerning:
Gay marriage rights within the state of Pennsylvania and whether it is deemed legal or unconstitutional to wed within the state.
My opinion on the subject:
Pennsylvania is the only state in all of the northeast where there are still laws against gay marriage. I personally am not for gay marriage myself but I understand the arguments both ways and give leniency both ways as well. I think it is fine that some states allow for gay marriage but I absolutely agree with the ones that have yet to fold on the subject such as here in Texas. This particular article is about marriage licenses given away in the state of Pennsylvania and whether or not the state should take them back or let them wed. There were 174 marriage licenses given away. The problem is the gay couples are saying it would be unconstitutional to take away what was already given to them. I think the government in charge should allow the the couples that were already given the licenses to go ahead and get married legally but not give any more out as it is still illegal for gay marriage in that one northeastern state. Tom Corbett is the governor of Pennsylvania and he has already taken Hanes (man who issued the marriage licenses) to court because of the state laws stating that gay marriage is illegal. The situation now is what to do with the 174 marriage licenses already given away and I think just go ahead and let those be the lucky 174 and not take away what was already given to them.
