 2.Category: Law Enforcement

3.  Level of issue: Local level

4.  The article is concerning a problem that individuals/families face

5.   Why this is important to individuals/families OR How does this affect individuals/families:
It is important to the public that police and law enforcement are acting appropriate in creating a safe environment for individuals and families to live in. If law enforcement officials do not act appropriately when on/off duty the public is at risk and can be negatively affected.

6.   What are your views on the issue/policy?
I think that even though the Austin police department has been previously reviewed by the Justice Department, it could only benefit them by being reviewed again. I don't think this is a matter of whether or not the Austin PD can be trusted but rather a matter of how the Austin PD can avoid getting themselves into deadly/dangerous situations. I feel as though additional training and more classes requiring situational exercises could help in avoiding incidents that result in unnecessary death. I think that far too often extreme measures are taken from law enforcement officials. If nothing else, I feel like a review of the department would help restore the faith and trust that the community has for its law enforcement officials. I think that it would give many a sense of peace knowing that it has been looked over and ensured that it is running and conducting itself the appropriately.
