2. Category of problem: Food stamps
3. Level of problem: National level
4. The article concerns: House Republicans' cutting money from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Problem will create numerous hardships for women, children, the disabled and the elderly.
5. Why is this important to families/individuals Or how does it affect individuals/families?
--The issue concerning cutting money from food stamps will affect individuals and families who depend on them to buy food. Taking away funding will create even more poverty in this nation.
6. What are your views on this issue/problem?
--I do not personally need or have needed to use food stamps. However, you can drop into poverty at any moment. The Great Rescission is a prime example of that, which was when the food stamp program was created. Knowing that if I were to fall into poverty for whatever reason, it being because I cannot find a job or I become a single mother with children. The knowledge of the food stamp program would somewhat put me at ease. Taking away funding for the food stamp program, I feel is not fair to the people who are in need of it now and those in the future.
Most people who are in poverty are children. They are not of legal age to work, therefore cannot provide for themselves. Taking away food stamp programs like SNAP, will deny those children access to food. As a nation, do we really want to see that happen? I know I do not. Children are the future of this nation, even the ones in poverty. House Republicans' who are trying to cut funding need to consider that the children that they are taking these welfare programs away from are going to be the ones determining their future. Taking away money from the program also affect the elderly. Those politicians will soon be those elderly. They are not thinking about their own future in a sense. They might have money now, but like I stated before anything can happen.
I do agree that at any time you can drop into the poverty line. They need to be thinking about the future of this country. Are they personally going to give money out of their pockets to fund the program? NO THEY AREN'T. I feel like everyone should have food and shelter. Them cutting back on the benefits means more money is going towards food and less money is going towards other things like housing. In the poor kids film, one of the families, after bills had around 100 dollars for food and gas per month. More of that money would be used for food. I also do agree that it isn't fair to those who need it now and in the future. As for the benefit cuts Texas is the state with the highest $ amount for cuts. "The upcoming cuts to SNAP benefits will be significant and will have far-reaching impacts on low-income individuals and families. They will likely increase hardship for the more than 47 million Americans who rely upon SNAP to meet their basic nutritional needs. With Congress unlikely to act to mitigate the cuts, states need to begin planning for the reduction to ensure that clients and the many organizations and SNAP stakeholders who work with them are aware of the upcoming change and its effects."
