Category: Texas Star hiring freeze is over!
Level of Problem: Local
A problem that individuals and families faced
The hiring freeze put Texas State at a disadvantage for 2 years. Without enough funds to bring in new faculty and staff the University was at a stand still with hiring.
My Views: This is such a relief that the hiring freeze is discontinued. I am sure there are so many departments within Texas State that have suffered from this. It is an overload on existing professors, maybe having to pick up extra courses or some courses might have had to been dropped over the period because the lack of faculty to support them. I know in the Fashion Merchandising department there is room for growth. I see these professors now picking up additional courses to add on to their work load and with Texas State growing tremendously having to offer multiple course to satisfy all of the students. Also the FM department had teachers leave within this year, one of them no longer teaching at all and the other teaching an online class all the way from New York. This doesn't help the students here. With the freeze being over with and the money granted to Texas State i hope they bring in new professors that can get departments back on track and bring new things to the table. This class, Family Policy, I am sure could use another professor and with the hiring freeze over with maybe it wont be such a struggle to get all students in the class on time and without over loading the classrooms. This is a mandatory class for all FCS majors and also mandatory for ESS majors, a lot of people are expected to take it! This also opens the door for new opportunities, in the past two years many more professors out there have made a name for themselves and need a school that is growing and is established, this would be a perfect time for Texas State to dig into the opportunities that have been missed within these past couple of years.
