Category: Accidental death by a firefighter
Level: National/World
Concerning: How government employees such as fire-fighters in this situation should be prosecuted when it comes to accidental manslaughter.
How does this article affect families or individuals?
The fire fighter ran over and killed a 16 year old girl that had a family overseas I'm sure as she was on her way to a summer camp in the United States. The article said nothing about the family of the girl but I'm sure as any family would be, they are mortified that the fireman is not being charged with anything, regardless of whether or not it was an accident.
My opinion on the subject:
The article talks about how the girl was not even standing when the fire truck ran her over meaning she was probably passed out on the ground from injuries from the plane crash. It also states she was covered in foam from the fire hoses putting out the fire from the air plane that had crashed. With those pieces of evidence I see no way of the fireman being charged with any kind of crime. The only problem with this is, if it had just been an average pedestrian like me or you that ran the girl over, we would have been charged with accidental manslaughter and been sent off to prison. I don't know how I feel about the favoritism simply because it was a fireman going to the aid of the problem. I think maybe the law needs to take a closer look into all "accidents" that happen and be more lenient on penalties, not just for fireman in this case. There may be some backlash to this incident as well because the girl that was run over is not from the United States so some my call this bias because it was an American fireman, and a Chinese girl. I do not see why this would matter at all but I'm sure some may see it as a problem that the man is getting off clean.
