 6. What are your views on the issue/policy?

I personally think that this is a good thing for the university to be spending more time, money and attention on. Safety is something that I feel we can never be complacent with and it there is always room for improvement when it comes to the safety and wellness of the students. I think that with all of the tragedies such as the Virginia Tech, Sandy Hook Elementary fatal school shootings that have occurred within the last few years, it is crucial that all measurements are taken to ensure that action plans are in place in the case of an emergency. Aside from the tragic school shootings across the United States, Texas State University has experienced a number of armed robberies recently as well. I seems like every time I check my phone I'm getting an alert on my phone warning students about a recent attempted robbery or harassment case being investigated. Being an Interior Design student at Texas State we are constantly at the FCS building working on projects until 3 or 4 in the morning and it's never a good feeling having to walk to your car in the dark. I think with the "ramp up" of security on campus that walk to the car won't be so dreaded. I can only imagine increased security especially making the on-campus residents feel more secure (since they are the ones walking across campus to get everywhere). With this focus on making the university a safer place I think considering higher safety inside of dark parking garages is something that should be looked into a little closer as well.
