2. Category of problem: Same sex marriage
3. Level of problem: State level
4. The article concerns: Governor Chris Christie dropped his fight against gay marriage in New Jersey.
5. Why is this important to individuals/families OR how does it affect individuals/families?
--Dropping the fight against gay marriage in New Jersey will give people who are homosexuals the right to do what they choose when it comes to loving their partner.
6. What are your views on the issue/problem?
--I think that gay marriage should be legal in all states and I believe this opinion is shared by many people. Again, this is another example of how politics and religion are coinciding. That should not be the case. Politicians need to leave their religious beliefs out of their decision-making and let others do what they choose to do. Holding someone back from marrying a person who they love, in my mind, is a crime within itself. Everyone has the freedom to go out and get their dream job or to practice the religion of their choosing. I do not see what is different in choosing the one you wish to marry. Even if that chosen person happens to be the same sex. The government has too much control over our personal lives and this fact is characterized by the difficulty of obtaining marriage certificates for same sex couples.
"New Jersey Legislature passed a bill to legalize gay marriage, but
Christie vetoed it. The issue ended up before Christie again after a
trial-level judge ruled last month that the state must allow same-sex
couples to wed." Governor Christie even learned that fighting an issue like legalizing gay marriage is a losing battle. Equality is what the United States was built on. Even though our Founding Fathers probably did not see they day where something called 'gay marriage' would be legal let alone a "thing". They did however see how people of this nation need to be treated equally, fairly, and to have freedom of choice.
