Anyone that has children or especially family members that have been in this situation where they are left to care for a child.
How does this affect families?
This has an enormous impact on families because it says who gets to have custody of a child's life after one of their siblings was mistreated and let die. The "father" who may not even be the father and was not even in the child's life wants custody of the other kids but the law has given custody to to grandparents as they see it is best fit for the children's well-being.
My opinion on the subject:
This is an unbelievable situation that was let happen by a drunk mother and is extremely unfortunate for the rest of the siblings. That being said, I like the fact that CPS does not immediately put the remaining siblings in the foster care system when they clearly have family that will take hopefully better care of them than their mother did. Hopefully the mother will be charged with at least manslaughter and never allowed to raise any other children in this horrible manner that she raised her youngest. It becomes a sticky situation when a man comes in claiming to be a father. I just hope there are good enough people within the CPS administration to judge whether it would be okay to let him raise the children and keep them in his custody or if the grandparents would have a better living environment.
