Category: Community
Level: Local
Concerning: An
enacted policy that has been passed to address an issue that
families/individuals face.
Why is this
important/how does this affect individuals/families? Th decision to upgrade the San Marcos library is very important because it will positively affect all
families and individuals that reside in the San Marcos area and frequent the
library regularly.
My Views: I think
it is fantastic that the San Marcos library has decided to upgrade their
facility to accommodate the growing population of the city. What is even more
exciting is that library officials are asking residents for their input in
deciding what amenities, resources, and services should be added/improved in
the facility. Residents are able to voice their opinions through a survey that
asks various questions regarding their favorite aspect of the library, things
they would change, and any constructive comments that will help officials to
better understand the wants and needs of the community. The survey also lists
numerous potential programs, services, and resources that residents can rate
from 1-5 regarding importance. I think this is a wonderful way to get the community
involved in the decision making process of the library construction. In my
opinion, of the amenities listed in the survey, I would like to see large and
small meeting rooms, quiet study rooms, hands-on creative spaces, comfortable
lounge seating, outdoor seating areas, and a coffee/snack area added to the San
Marcos Library. I feel that added more meeting and study rooms, as well as more
comfortable indoor and outdoor seating areas will really enhance the library
and provide a welcoming atmosphere. I am also in support of adding a coffee
shop to the library, as it will enhance the facility and will encourage residents to come relax with coffee and a book, opposed to checking out a book
and immediately leaving. I am looking forward to learning the final survey
results and seeing the transformation of the San Marcos Library.
