This is an enacted policy that individuals/families face.
How does this affect individuals/families? Every day
innocent children are taken advantage of against their will. The repercussions
of this crime will remain with children affected for the rest of their lives.
My view on this policy: PTSD is not an illness to take
advantage of and it’s not an illness that would make someone want to sexually
assault young children. This problem stemmed from the sergeant’s childhood, not
the result of two tours overseas. In my opinion, if this man was having
thoughts like this at such a young age, he should have gotten help then. He
admitted to touching a boy who was younger than him when he was only 10. His
parent should have gotten him appropriate help. An assistant U.S. attorney stated
that it is shameful that he engaged in this sort of behavior in uniform, when
in my opinion it’s a shame he did it period. It’s not just military personnel
that perform these actions; it’s all types of ill-minded people. He just blamed
it on his PTSD illness. Yes, PTSD can
make you do harmful things and it’s clear that someone who suffers with it is
not in the right mind set, but he already admitted to doing things like this
before he toured. Also, PTSD is more of a fear even when not in danger. It is
not a cause for a child pornography addiction.
