Week 8 Article 2

1.    Rauf, D.S., (2013 October, 21). In federal court, attorneys spar over state’s new abortion rules. The Houston Chronicle. Retrieved from http://www.chron.com/default/article/In-federal-court-attorneys-spar-over-state-s-new-4914853.php
2.    Category of Problem: Abortion laws
3.    Level of Problem: State
4.    This article concerns: State lawyers defending stricter abortion laws.
5.    Importance/affects on families/ individuals: This affects particularly women in that they are getting some of their freedom of choice taken away. This could be life altering for women and their families.

6.    My concerns: While I may not necessarily agree with abortion I do think that women should have that right to choose whether or not to have one. The government may not know the circumstances behind a woman wanting to have an abortion but that is that woman’s right and I don’t think that should be taken away from her. I think that a woman should know in 20 weeks whether or not she wants to keep her baby but I do understand that there may be extenuating circumstances as to why she may not have decided yet. I do understand protecting the life of the fetus that does not have a say in things but I think that the choice should be the woman’s. Nobody knows the circumstances behind that woman’s decision and I don’t think the government has the right to make that decision for that woman.
