Privacy and the NSA

Website: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/10/14/nsa-contact-lists_n_4099147.html Level: National Topic: Government Politics Concerning: NSA collection private information and whether it is constitutional Why this affects individuals and families: People debate whether this should be allowed and don’t think it is right for them to use loop holes to get around the law. The privacy of individuals and families are being compromised and discussed whether it is ethical or not. I still believe we have our freedom and do not think that this is compromising much of it. People are talking about how this is taking away our freedom but I feel like it is really helping us have freedom. I do understand why this would be a topic of concern for many Americans in the case of invading their privacy. I agree that these loop holes they are using are invasive but might be an important resource when it comes to protecting our country. As long as these people are not sharing this information with others or using it in a way to snoop I feel like this might be needed. A part of me does not want to think that someone is always watching me and knowing what I am doing. It angers me that our country needs to be constantly monitored because people cannot be trusted. On the other hand it makes me feel somewhat safe that things are being so closely monitored. Considering all of the attacks we have had on our country and how much fighting we have had over centuries I do feel like someone should be tracking what is happening. I mean we already have cameras everywhere we go which is unsettling but if it is in the right hands I somewhat agree. What if this inevitably saves a ton of people because they are watching what is going on? Although it is invasive and concerning, if it saves me and my family from an attack on our country I am all for it. I would not want just anyone having access to my private life and do not think it is acceptable for people to have the right to monitor everything in our lives. If these are trained professionals only out to protect like they are saying then I would offer up the password to anything because I don’t have anything to hide. I want to be protected and will agree that this might be a good way to do it.
