This article is concerning an enacted policy that affects individuals/families.
Importance for families/individuals:
Amped up screening processes can provide a higher level of safety for those who are flying but at the same time may be seen as an increased invasion of privacy.
My views:
I choose to look at this situation in a positive light. As someone who flies semi-frequently, these amped up search procedures make me feel safer. They may be searching through a lot of personal information, but if those searches stop someone who is potentially dangerous from boarding my flight while allowing those with no red flags in their file to proceed, then it seems like a solid plan to me. The "invasion of privacy" doesn't bother me, at least in this situation, because I know that a lot of good can come out of it, and because I choose to trust that those qualified to search my information will not abuse the power they have been given. I know trust is difficult these days, but I also think that people are taking conspiracy theories about the government too far. After what happened on 9/11 shouldn't we all be comforted by the fact that more precautions are being taken to protect us from tragedies like that? We may be losing a tiny bit of our right to privacy, but the safety that comes out of it is worth it, in my opinion.
