Brown fails to lower city tax rate

Brown fails to lower city tax rate

Category of problem: Tax/Economy

Level of problem: Local

An enacted policy that has been passed to help with a problem/issue that individuals/families face.

How does this affect individuals/families? Taxes affect everyone regardless of socioeconomic status. They are added revenue and will always be something that everybody pays at some point.

My views on the issue/policy: This is a typical ‘bad guy’ gets the blame for giving an honest opinion and the public not liking the outcome. Helena Brown refused to lower tax rates in Houston, TX due to the increase in debt and spending the city already has. The financial hearings that were taking place monthly did not like the conclusion of having a 10.58% increase in revenue when that’s already 4.16% higher than the current tax bracket. According to Brown, the city didn’t need added projects and wanted to sacrifice the taxpayer. Well I think that is some tough love. Not everyone is going to like every decision made in policy making. This type of situation happens on a daily basis. Debt is an ongoing crisis and without giving a little and sacrificing, it’s just going to keep getting deeper. Tax concerns are a huge problem in this country and without people speaking up and voicing their opinion, policy makers will continue to implement their own decisions and get their way.
