2. Category of problem: Military/ Child
neglect
3. Level of problem: Local
4. The article concerns: How a man is
being sentenced to three years in jail for 3 counts of child endangerment.
5.Why is this important to
families/individuals OR how does it affect individuals/families? I believe that
is important to individuals/families because children count on adults to keep
them safe.
6.What are your views on the
issue/policy?
I am confused as to how he already got
sentenced and the MOTHER of the children is still awaiting a trail. “From the beginning of the court-martial the
prosecution argued that Perez had a duty to report the conditions of the
Klapheke home and whether or not the children were being neglected.” I do agree
that yes, he should have said something but maybe he didn’t see it as a threat.
He started to see less and less of the children or the conditions so maybe he
thought that it was getting better. I can’t stand when children are being
neglected. It isn’t right. I feel like you gave them life and you need to raise
them right. “The defense countered
saying that Perez was not obligated to do anything to report anything about the
living conditions in the home because he was not contracted to care for the
children and was unaware of the neglect going on in the home.” I’m not sure
about this. Yes, he wasn’t contracted to care for the children but when you see
a child in danger you tell someone. As for him being unaware, he saw the
conditions and then he saw less and less. He could have asked questions, as to why he
couldn’t open the door, where the kids were, why weren’t they with them….
there’s a long list. Something is telling me that all the facts aren’t here.
