Youth Commission is San Marcos

Level: Local

Category: Council Members

Concerning: A enacted policy affecting families and individuals

This is important because it brings insight to the adult council members to other aspects they don’t normally consider.

My Views: I think that this happening in San Marcos is a great thing for everyone.  Children are going to be able to have first hand insight to how a city is being run and learning so much in the process. Adults are even going to be learning from the kids. Children often have a similar way of thinking about things which will offer common ground for everyone. It is worrisome because some adults on the board might think otherwise and maybe write the kids off, so to hear that this program has been being developed for years, it is reassuring that everyone is on board with it. San Marcos being a high poverty city, I truly hope that kids who are stricken by poverty will still apply rather than those who are more fortunate.  I am curious to hear about how they are going to get the kids pumped up about all this and enable them to go ahead with the job application. I think that some setbacks will not being able to have transportation to meetings because the family members are working  or just not enough knowledge about the program to get kids interested in the program.
