Modified Hiring Freeze Discontinued

Category: Community, Education

Level: Local

Concerning: An enacted policy that has been passed to help with an issue that individuals/families face

Why is this important/how does this affect individuals/families? The discontinuation of the Texas State hiring freeze is important because it has a positive impact on the San Marcos community, Texas State students, and Texas State University as a whole.

My Views: I think it is great that the officials at Texas State have ended the “modified hiring freeze”. What is even greater is the reason for why the freeze was ended; the university received its largest increase in funding in the past ten years. The increase in funding will be very beneficial to the university and it’s students. As many people know, Texas State University is huge university and is continuously growing. Texas State is one of the most applied to colleges in Texas, and the number of incoming freshmen increases greatly every year. It only makes sense for the state to give the university more funding in order to accommodate the increasing student body. Due to the financial increase, the university now has the means to hire new faculty and staff. Hopefully, this means that more classes will be added and the number of students per class will decrease. There are numerous classes at Texas State that allow hundreds of students in a single class. In my opinion and from my experiences, students perform better in smaller settings in which they can engage in classroom discussions comfortably. Students are more likely to ask questions and participate when they are in a room of 30, opposed to 300. I think that the end of the hiring freeze and the increase in state funding will have a positive impact on everyone involved with Texas State University.
