KIA Soldiers benefits continue

2.       Category of problem: Government, Veterans

3.       Level of Issue: National

4.       This article concerns: Families of soldiers that die in action are given death benefits to cover costs like travel, burial fees and funeral costs. The government shutdown has caused the reimbursement to cease but Fisher House Foundation has offered to help with the funds. 3 families of recently KIA soldiers were told that they would not receive benefits.

5.       Why is this important to families/individuals OR how does this affect families/individuals? The benefits to the families of KIA soldiers are very important to help with any expenses they cannot afford. They are going to be hard pressed for money if they didn’t know this was going to happen and a funeral is not cheap. The government shutdown is cutting many people of lots of necessary benefits.

6.       My views: The government shutdown is a fight between two children for who is right or wrong. They are not getting hurt or having necessities taken from them so they do not feel the pain that it is causing the entire nation. I have a brother who is a Marine who I would want to have these same benefits. It would be tough to come up with money last minute to make certain arrangements. These families are given 100,000 dollars to help with burial and 12 month allowances for basic needs to survive. The government shutdown is taking a soldier’s last benefit to their families away. Thankfully there are good people out there.
