Vet's death benefits get temporary fix
Austin American-Statesman

This article is concerning an issue that families and individuals face.
This is important for families/individuals because:
Families now have to worry about how they are going to pay for the arrangements for their fallen soldiers when that was not a worry before.
My views:
This issue is obviously due to the government shut down. Never before have military families had to worry about making financial arrangements in the event of the death if their soldier. In my opinion, the soldiers who die in combat should still be considered active military which would allow their families to receive their benefits.
Fisher House, who has stepped in to provide those benefits to military families should receive highest honors for their efforts. The stats on how many military families they have helped throughout the years is amazing and I am surprised I have not heard of them before. The government has said that as soon as the shutdown ends, Fisher House will be reimbursed for their donations. I do feel that the government is obligated to do so since Fisher House has stepped in to do its job. Because of Fisher House, military families can one again have peace of mind to some degree. When a family is worried that their soldier may not return from war the last thing they should have to think about is finances. I am grateful that there are organizations out there who are willing to step up in times when the government fails.
