Outside National Parks Struggle

Level: National

Category: National Parks

Concerning: An “enacted” policy that has been passed to help with a problem/issue that individuals/families face

This shut down not only effects people who are working for the government but also, people who rely on government owned attractions to support their business. It is important because the government shutdown is causing a lot more harm than good.

My Views: Growing up in Colorado, there are National Parks all over the state. Being the “Colorful State” this is the most beautiful time of year when the largest aspen tree chain in the world starts to turn golden marking the change of seasons. This government shutdown is causing so much loss in these states that rely on tourism for revenue it is so sickening. I remember as a kid going to Estes Park yearly to see the changing of the trees and remembering going to the little shops for shopping and getting homemade ice cream at the parlors. After reading this article, it is breaking my heart that these shops that are so close to my heart are struggling so badly now and it has only been a week of the government shutdown. Even though I am so skeptical about what is really going on behind door in Congress, I just wish they would come to some sort of agreement so the businesses and tourists alike will be able to enjoy the perks of living and visiting the most beautiful places in the country. The talks about allowing the states to open the parks if they pay for it themselves, has potential to be a great thing but cane end up causing the state to be in turmoil financially depending on how long this shutdown goes on for.
