prenatal screening

2. Break through with prenatal care

3. National level

4.A potential policy that is being considered that would help families and individuals.

5. Research is being done that could get early term pregnancy screening that could detect early onset of down syndrome and chorionic villus sampling. The screening would test fragments of fetal genetic fragments found in mothers blood.

6. This new type of research will certainly help us better understand the direct causes of pre natal genetic disorders. This type of screening should be accessible to all expecting mothers because it may be possible to prevent many cases of genetic disorders. More and more cases of prenatal disorders continue to rise and become prevalent however, no direct answer is being given to why these disorders occur in the first place. It is a credible fact that proper eating, nutrition, and living a healthy lifestyle will decrease the chances of genetic disorders affecting a fetus. However, even with living a healthy lifestyle the chances of a fetus developing a disorder are still a possibility. Typically a mother who gives birth to child with a prenatal disorder is sometimes not aware until the child is actually born that the child does have a disorder. With this type of technology hopefully medication, treatment, or proper education can prevent that complete development of set disorder.  Which adds to the attraction of this kind of screening is that the procedure in noninvasive so the mother and mom would be protected. This type of testing has not yet been approved by the FDA but if approved I feel it would benefiting families 10 fold. The negative speculation that comes with the territory is that if no treatment of prevention can be done would it increases the likely hood of abortion since the screening can be done within the first trimester. Even with this looming I feel the aim will be to help those in need and educate people everywhere to know what preventive steps they should be taking.
