San Antonio adopts disputed gay rights measure

1. Weber, Paul (Austin American Statesman) San Antonio passes nondiscrimination act supporting gay rights.

2. Category of problems: Gay rights

3. Level of issue: local (San Antonio)

4. This article concerns: A policy that is affecting individuals that could ultimately lead to a family issue as gay rights keep stacking up across the nation in comparison to what they were a decade ago.

5. Why is this important to families/individuals OR how does it affect individuals/families?
This is important because it goes against what many right wing Texans stand for and tried to fight against.  The article stated San Antonio is the 180th city to support this movement but one of the first besides Austin here in Texas.  This could be the start of more gay rights here in what is a Republican ruled state at the moment.

6. What are your views on the issue/policy?
Although I am not entirely in support of gay marriage as I hold a strong Christian foundation, I am in support of this nondiscrimination act.  One of the people that was interviewed in this article mentioned he had been kicked out of an apartment for his sexual orientation and I in no way stand for that kind of judgement.  One of the main issues involved with this act involves the nondiscrimination of gays in workplaces such as restaurants and hotels.  I personally thought it was already illegal to discriminate against gays in that regard but I am most definitely in support of this.  http://www.statesman.com/news/ap/religion/gay-rights-groups-seek-anti-bias-victory-in-texas/nZnF5/
