Article Concerns: 8th Graders
having to take 2 different standardized math tests.
5.
This issue not only affects the children directly
it also affects the teachers and the families of these students. This means
that students and teachers will have to divide up the school year in order to
prepare for 2 tests.
6.
My thoughts: I disagree with this regulation
students already have to take a standardized every year starting in eighth
grade, why should they have to take two different math tests. The students that
are going to be taking an extra math exam are the students that are in an upper
level math class. I personally thing that it is pointless to take an extra math
exam, the information is going to be repetitive between the two exams. The
schools spend all their time as it is making sure the students are prepared to
take one standardized test much less having to prepare them to take another
test. This not only affects the students, it also affects the teachers.
Teachers work very hard in preparing students for one standardized test without
the added burden of having the second test. Teachers work very hard and plan
their whole school year around these tests and for very little pay. Taking two
math tests is not going to benefit the schools in anyway. It only adds more stress
to the teachers, students, and parents of the students. I think state and
federal law makers should find a way to work this issue out and not punish
everyone else that is involved.
