The Article Concerns: The sentencing was to
light for a Rape trial.
5.
This is important to families and individuals
because it shows how wrong a judge could be sometimes. How are families
supposed to keep their kids safe with a sentence like this?
6.
My thoughts: I think that it was wrong of the
judge to misjudge the sentencing time frame. It seemed like he did not take
this particular trial seriously and now that the victim has committed suicide is
when he wants to go back and change his sentencing. He should have thought
about that when the case was first brought to his attention. I think the only
reason he is going back to try and fix it is because he does not want to look
bad. Even in going back to fix the sentencing the judge still believes that Mr.
Rambold should only get the minimum sentencing because this is his first
offense. I do not agree with that. I think first offense or not he should be
held more accountable for his actions. I think the judge was and still is too lenient
on Mr. Rambold. This was an injustice to the Moralez family that ultimately
resulted in the death of their daughter. It was because of the judge’s lenient
actions that the victim killed herself and that should be on his conscious for
the rest of his life.
I agree completely the verdict that this judge decided on was outrageous, and I honestly could not believe it at first. I do not think he believed that he would receive so much public scrutiny. He even went as far to say that the girl (14 at the time) seduced the teacher and that she looked older then her chorological age. The comments made by this judge I feel were way out of line and disrespectful of the deceased and her mother. Even if he did think that of the girl, that was not something he should have publicly made known. Regardless of how old she looked Mr. Rambold was 49 years old at the time of this incidence. By no means am I implying if Mr. Rambold was between 17 and 18 years of age would this be ok, I do feel the dramatic age gap constitutes for more jail time than what he was originally sentenced. Whatever the case may be I do feel that 30 days was a slap in the face to the family of the victim and exposed a personal flaw in the judges moral. To make matters even worse the Mr. Rambold violated is no contact with minors order. Though the children he did come in contact with were of his own family, he knew the guidelines of his sentences and chose to violate them anyway. I feel he shows no remorse for the victim even after her untimely death. I feel as if the judge should e removed from the case and a new judge be appointed. I feel this only seeks to save his career and fix his image in the eye of the public not to do what is right by the victim. The death of this girl will make it harder to get him the time he deserves without her testimony because rather it was consensual or not sex with a minor under the age of 18 is illegal and the max sentence is on year in jail. The Defense argues that the his reputation and humiliation of have to register as sex offender is punishment enough, however it seems to me that this prosecution is not taking this case a seriously as it should be taken. The fact that Me. Rambold would even pursue a 14 year old with intent of a sexual encounter I feel is grounds for him to be forced to seek psychological help, because who is to say that this type of thing would not happen again. Just because he has been removed from the classroom environment does not mean he would not possibly seek out another minor to possibly have sex with. I am not implying that the put the Mr. Rambold under the jail house but I do feel he should have to pay from the crime he committed and serve the adequate amount of time in jail. Without the proper time jail time being sentenced this could completely change the way rape cases are being looked at across the country.
