Same-sex Married Couples Now Can File Federal Tax Returns

Same-sex Married Couples Now Can File Federal Tax Returns

2.      Category: Economy
3.      Level: National
4.      Article concerns: A federal government rule just passed that benefit thousands of married same-sex couples in the nation because of the possibility to file joint federal tax returns.

5.      This is really important to same-sex married couples because they will not be treated differently from the other straight married couple sin terms of economy. They now can file equally and together their federal tax returns and get benefit as the other couples.

6.      Equality between gay and straight people has always been a topic of controversy. From my point of view this new rule from the federal government is huge step in achieving the equality between individuals in many ways. The only issue here is that there are still some states that don’t even permit same-sex marriage. There are a lot of things to do for still looking for equality in the entire nation because this is a free country and homosexual people also have rights as ever other heterosexual individual in this country. They also work and spend money so there should be rules stating equality between all citizens in all the factors. All of the individual are different in some things yeah this is true, but it’s also true that all of them have equal rights to prosper in this life.

  1. I think this is a huge step in the fight for equal rights for the LGBT community. There is a huge fight still going on to be viewed the same as any heterosexual couple in the eyes of the law, but these baby steps help to get to the main goal. This ability to file joint taxes will help so much with couples who are raising a family, just like a heterosexual family does, because they can now combine their family budgets and costs. Its a shame that not all states will recognize this ability to file jointly, but baby steps. Just having a few states who do recognize this could pave the way for more states in the future.
