All white sorority

Level:Local

Concerning:A potential policy that is being considered to help a problem/issue that individuals/families face

Category:racism, segregation

Why is this important’/how does this affect individuals/families?
It affects individuals because they are being segregated and aren't allowed to join a sorority because of their skin color.

My View: I honestly can't believe that this kind of segregation still exists in our society. You would think by now people would have realized that the color of your skin doesn't change who you are as a person. For girls to not be allowed into a sorority because they are black is just absolutely ridiculous. I just don't understand the ignorance of these people who think that race is something that can be used against people. Although it really upsets me to hear how alumni from the school were the ones mandating these requirements, it does make me feel like there is still hope if this "rule" was not agreed with by current members. I am happy to hear that at least some of the current members are speaking out about this situation and making an effort the change the racism that the sorority has historically shown. It's unimaginable to think what our country would be like if we still lived in a society divided by the color of your skin. We wouldn't have accomplished near what our country has accomplished if we continued to let something as silly as the color of your skin determine whether you were worthy or not. I hope that this sorority, and any others facing the same problem come to a realization or appropriate actions are taken to make sure this doesn't continue..
