2.Category of problem: Health/Education
3. level of problem: local
4.The article concerns: Healthy Nutrition Services an accredited diabetes educational program
5.Why it is important, and how it effects families: 25.8 million children and adults in the United States, That's 8.1% of our population. Some people are unsure whether they have it or not. Then there are others who know they have it but do not take care of it how they should or don't know how to take care of it. The numbers are not going down, they are rising. The risk for stroke is 2 to 4 times higher among people with diabetes.
6. My views: I think that this educational program would be great! it would offer great assistance to those who are living with diabetes. "Participating in a diabetes education program can prevent or slow down the devastating complication of diabetes by 58 percent." Today the portion sizes are more than double of what they use to be. The portion sizes are normal to most people so they do not think twice when eating. Sometimes they need someone to point it out to really realize what they are doing isn't healthy. I think there should be mandatory programs just for people with diabetes should attend.
