2.    Category of problem: Texas efforts to reduce testing for high-performers

3.    Level of problem: State

4.    This article concerns: An “enacted” policy that has been passed to help with a problem/issue that individuals/families face

5.    Importance/affect on families/individuals: This would affect students in Texas schools in a negative way in the short term academics and long term academics areas.

6.    My input: I don’t think that any student should be allowed not to take the State of Texas Assessment no matter what their performance was in the 3rd and 5th grade. Just because a student does good on the State of Texas Assessment one year doesn’t mean that same student is going to do good on the next State of Texas Assessment. Students change too much in their academic performance to be that consist and I think it is a way for some of the teacher to get off the hook that students don’t do well on the State of Texas Assessment in the first place. I believe that the State of Texas Assessment only helps every student and doesn’t hurt them. Also without these test how would Texas school know where each student, school, and teacher fall in the education level.
