3. Level of problem/issue: Local

4.State whether the article is concerning one of the following: A
potential policy that is being considered to help a problem/issue that individuals/families face

5.Why this is important to individuals/families? This is important to individuals and families because the traffic on I-35 through Schertz is ridiculous. The toll road is a potential solution to help in traffic congestion.

6. What are your views on the issue/policy?

I think that the proposal for toll roads on I-35 in Schertz through to 410 in San Antonio could benefit and aid in reducing traffic congestion through the highly populated area that is continuing to grow. Being from Schertz (a suburb of San Antonio) I personally don’t think I’d purchase a toll tag if given the option to drive on a free highway or an elevated toll road, and I’d have to think many others would probably feel the same. I do think something needs to be done to address the traffic problem through the city but I don’t necessarily think a toll road is the answer. I think the expansion of lanes on the existing roadway would be a better solution to the congestion. Regardless of the decision, construction and road work is going to be an issue that residents and travelers are going to have to endure. But I think long-term additional lanes would be more beneficial to the area and would create less chaos. I am not really familiar with toll roads but I have experienced the confusion of them while driving through Houston and they were definitely something that I didn’t understand and would avoid if at all possible. Having to drive through Schertz often I wouldn’t want to have that experience any more than I’d have to, I think I’d just go further out of my way to avoid having to come into any contact with toll roads. Whatever the “right” answer may be, something needs to be done to alleviate the ridiculous amounts of traffic traveling on I-35.
