2.   Category: Sex 3. Level of problem: State
4. The article concerns: Sexually explicit material
5. Why is this important and how does it affect individuals/families?
--The individuals who would be committing sex crimes by hopefully limiting, its allowing them more way to get around the system. It’s affecting the victims because they are more vulnerable. 6. What is your viewpoint on the problem/issue?
--There is a difference between a 53 year old man talking to a 16 year old girl about prevention, what sex is, or other various sex issues, and someone talking inappropriately about what turns a minor on. The fact that the latter is not against the law is horrendous! Pedophiles in the state of Texas will see this ruling as an open opportunity to fulfill their needs through cyber space. This previously was already the case, but the difference between before and now is that they can easily get away with it. The law should be replaced with a more specific set of rules in place that still allows people to have discussion online about sex, but disallows malicious content directed towards minors. I feel that the victims are not going to be able to get justice for the crimes that were forced to endure.
Teenagers are very impressionable and vulnerable, especially at an age where they want to feel special. Predators prey on those insecurities and feelings and this article makes it seem that the court system isn’t doing all they should be doing, but instead they are now relying solely on parental guidance. It is in a teenager’s nature to lie to and deceive their parents which only makes it harder for them to determine if there is a problem. The teenager is usually too concerned with hiding their relationship and is most likely doing a good job that parents will not find out until after the fact which is why the court needs to come in and exercise justice. Parental guidance and law enforcement should go hand in hand. Yes parents should have a better idea of who their child is talking to but the court should fill in the spaces.
