5% less food stamp benefits

Level: Federal
Category: Welfare programs
Concerning: A policy that affects families and individuals
This is important because it will affect people being able to have food and fed their families

My Views:
Government programs like SNAP have been around for many years and have helped many different people. Though they are widely beneficial to individuals and families that require financial assistance in order to get food, I believe that there are a lot of people that simply abuse the system and get rewarded for doing zero work. I am not saying that this program is made up entirely of abusers, but there are quite a few of them. The budget cuts also come with stricter restrictions on eligibility for food stamps, which may be able to eliminate some of the abusers from receiving the help that other people deserve more. One of the restrictions removes the indefinite eligibility, so people can not stay on food stamps forever. I believe that these harsher restrictions will deter any other people from abusing the system, and ensure that the people who are currently on the system be motivated to get jobs and actively search.  Hopefully with these new regulations on this welfare system, it will help lower the incidence of people needing to use SNAP.
