San Marcos River Conservation Project

Category: Environment, Community

Level: Local

Concerning a policy/project that has been enacted to address a problem/issue

Why is this important/how does this affect individuals/families? The conservation project to restore the San Marcos river is very important and will positively affect individuals/families living in the San Marcos area.

My Views: I think its phenomenal that city officials have initiated a conservation project to help restore the San Marcos river. The river is the soul of San Marcos and it is our responsibility to protect it and enhance its natural form. I think it is very smart to create new entrance points to the river in an effort to direct people away from the wild rice. As it is now, many of the entrances place people directly on top of the engendered wild life. Efforts to further protect particular areas of the river in which the endangered wildlife is most predominant with pool floats are also very smart. Additionally, informing the general public of the protected species that reside in the river and ways to avoid disturbing it will be helpful. In addition to protecting the various wildlife that inhabits the river, the project will be beneficial for river patrons as well. As stated in the article, “the access points will allow for the general public to enter and exit the river with greater ease”. Although the entrances/exits are pretty easily accessible as of now, increasing the ease will be advantageous to older and disabled citizens that want to enjoy the river. All and all, I strongly support the San Marcos river conservation project and I am looking forward to seeing the progress.
