Slaughter Houses to Reopen

Level: National
Category: Animal Slaughtering
Concerning: An enacted policy affecting families and individuals
This is important because it is a backward approach to the direction for the awareness of animal rights and morality.
My view: I have been studying animal rights for my issue analysis project for this class. While doing research I learned that it had become illegal to slaughter horses in the early 2000’s so finding out that it might not even be illegal makes me on all honestly, confused.
I question why there has to be horse slaughtering in the first place? Horse is not a normal part of our vast diets as Americans, and if it is cultural for other countries to eat horse why wouldn’t that industry be in that country.
How did this slip through the USDA’s hands? I thought it was their job to protect the people of the country and what they eat. I kind of feel as if we are going to start seeing horse meat mixed in with cow meat. It is something that would happen in Japan with Dolphin meat disguised as whale meat because of lack of government initiation. I greatly hope that this is all a misunderstanding and that the slaughter houses that slaughter horses to send to other countries will be shut down entirely.
